Careless Driving?
Careless driving violations can be given out in a variety of situations where the police officer feels a driver was not using the care to drive safely.
There are many reasons you may have been charged with careless driving including texting while driving, use of mobile phone while driving and other distractions that affect your ability to drive safely. Other actions such as eating, drinking, grooming, smoking, reading and reaching for objects can result in careless driving charge. Intentional or not, a careless driving charge on your record is cause for concern.
If you are found guilty, you will be assessed a maximum of six (6) demerit points to your driver’s licence. A maximum fine for Careless Driving Not Causing Bodily Harm or Death is $2000.
Your current insurance company may decide to greatly raise your insurance rates, cancel or non-renew your policy for up to 3 years if you have a careless driving charge on your record.
If you are able to convince the judge by verifying the police officer’s assessment of the situation was wrong. it will be removed from your record and won’t affect your automobile insurance.
