Most insurance companies offer a discount on their auto insurance for drivers who install winter tires during the period of November to May in Ontario. The exact amount and criteria vary among insurers.
To qualify for a discount, drivers should have winter tires with a symbol of peaked mountain with a snowflake. In general, mud & snow tires and all-season tires are not eligible for the discount.
It is also important to adjust driving to the road and weather conditions. Winter tires are not a licence to drive aggressively in the winter but one of many mechanisms to really ensure a safe driving in winter.
